However, you never know when you might run into trouble that your modern day gadgets can’t help you fix. When such a time comes, you need to rely on some traditional survival skills and common sense that can help save your life. Here is how to survive in the wilderness with nothing.

Hack One – Fire

Being able to start a fire the old-fashioned way when stranded in the middle of nowhere where you have no lighter or matches is always one of the most important things you can learn. Always travel with lighters and matches on your person. Know that a crayon will burn for 30 minutes if you need to signal for help, should you happen to have one. A fire can be started by way of fire steel; by rubbing two steel objects together. Place a newpaper on a dry sourface and rub the two metal steels together until it sparks. You can also rub tinder nest, dry wood, a spindle to make a fire.

There are other ways to make a fire without lighter or matches that are little more difficult. People use magnifying glass with direct sunshine. Another way is using Glycerin or other chemicals. Although some of these methods are good, but it is unlikely that most people will carry magnifying glass or Glycerin on them, therefore your best and the easiest way to start a fire is rubbing two metal steels together.  Your best bet should be to travel with a lighter or matches when going into the wild or on long journeys, but if not, make sure that you have a fighting chance to survive by knowing how to survive in the wild with nothing.

Hack Two – Determine True North

When it comes to how to survive in the wilderness with nothing, being able to determine true north is very crucial to your survival and a hack you must know. How do you know where you are when stranded in the wild? Geodetic north or being able to locate north Pole. This can be very complicated for most people, however, if you can determine north from south wherever you are, it could help you find your way to safety. To determine true north, put a stick in the ground and mark the location of the shadow. Wait 15 minutes and connect a line between the first and second shadow mark. If you put your left foot on the original mark and your right foot on the second mark, then you will be facing true north.

Hack Three – Injury

Do you know what to do if you get inured? For starters, wrap up the injury tight if you have the clothing. An infection or cut could be deadly. If you do get a scrape, wash it with purified drinking water, not in a lake or river water. The possibility of infection goes up when you introduced bacteria. But what if you have nothing at all on you except your article of clothing? Use a piece of your clothing to wrap the injury to prevent excessive bleeding and infection.

Hack Four – The Swiss Army Knife.

However, the idea here is to get into the habit of carrying a one for all tool like a swiss army knife on you when going into the wilderness. You can use it for so many different things, depending on the model you choose. The most basic model will usually include a corkscrew, bottle opener, toothpick, large and small blade, screwdriver, tin opener and reamer. Advanced models can have an LED light, pen, USB drive, wire stripper, wood saw, hook disgorger, fish scaler, ruler and wrench. The uses are endless.
