Libido killing foods. For many years, it is believed that certain types of foods can have either positive or devastating effects on humans both on physiological and psychosomatic levels. Just as some foods can boost your libido, some are foods that decrease libido and they can diminish and suppress your sexual desires. Below are 10 libido killing foods.

 1. Shrimp (non-organic type)

An average person is exposed to about 10 to 13 different pesticides each day, according to the USDA’s Pesticide Data Program. Out of the 10 most commonly used pesticides, nine are endocrine disruptors which affect male and female hormones. One of these is the 4-hexyl resorcinol, which is used in shrimp to prevent discoloration.

2. Alcohol

Another one of the foods that decrease libido is alcohol. While drinking a glass of wine or any alcoholic beverages can spice things up and put you in the mood, drinking alcohol regularly can adversely affect your sex drive. Because these drinks are depressants, drinking too much can particularly make it difficult for men to have an erection and reduce libido for both male and female. 3. Soda

Artificial sweeteners found in soda, especially aspartame, can make sodas easily libido killing food that can have a direct effect on the serotonin levels in your body. 4. Soy

According to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition, high levels of soy can reduce the sex hormones of females and affect their ovarian function. Meanwhile, Harvard School of Public Health found that half a serving of soy per day can decrease healthy males’ sperm count by about 40 percent.

5. Low-grade meat

Low quality meat contains hormones and antibiotics which can cause an imbalance in the hormones of your body. With this, it is better not to go for this low-grade meat because they can dampen your sexual desires.

6. Cheese

Cheese sold commercially are typically made of milk from cows that have been treated with growth hormones and antibiotics is another one of those libido killing foods that many do not know existed.  As mentioned earlier, heightened exposure to these growth hormones will disrupt the natural production of the hormones in your body.

7. Coffee

Although coffee can improve your mood in the morning, too much of it can hurt your adrenal glands which produces stress hormones. When the function of these glands decreases, your sex hormones will also be affected, another reason why you should avoid foods that decrease libido.

8. Processed Food

Processed food contains substandard ingredients, artificial additives, and sodium. High levels of sodium coupled with low potassium levels can result in high blood pressure, which in turn can minimize the flow of blood in your sexual organs.

9. Licorice

Licorice contains glycyrrhizin acid which hampers the production of testosterone. In the study Glycyrrhiza: Licorice root and testosterone, seven healthy male participants were administered 7 grams of licorice per day through licorice candy tablets. After four days, the testosterone levels of participants have already been slashed by 35 percent.

10. Trans fats

Because trans fats can clog arteries, your sexual organs may not function as effectively when you consume foods that decrease libido, foods with high levels of trans fats. The reason behind this is that the flow of blood to your sex organs will be obstructed if they are clogged.
